FILM

A Film About Lives Transformed by the Sea To some, the ocean is a fearsome and dangerous place. But to others, it's a limitless world of fun, freedom and opportunity where life can be lived to the full. A new documentary presented by Patagonia and directed by Keith Malloy, FISHPEOPLE tells the stories of a unique cast of characters who have dedicated their lives to the sea. From surfers and spearfishers to a former coal miner and a group of at-risk kids in San Francisco, it's a film about the transformative effects of time spent in the ocean-and how we can leave our limitations behind to find deeper meaning in the saltwater wilderness that lies just beyond the shore.

BOOK

Three years in the making, Water & Light presents new and unseen visions of waves.

Ray’s renowned style ties the tremendous force and fury of an agitated sea to a blink of light in a single water droplet seamlessly - and often on the same page.

To make this book, Ray has hung harnessed out of a doorless helicopter in Hawaii, swam amongst the below freezing north Atlantic seas of Iceland, sailed through the remote and uninhabited island chains of the Indonesian archipelago, documented a once in a decade Tahitian mega swell, and driven for days on end to the desolate reefs and bomboras of Australia’s raw southern and eastern coastlines.

The two fundamental elements in every moment he captures are water and light, and the very best moments are in this book.

Spirit of Akasha

Price: $24

In 1972, Albert Falzon made a film that would forever change the way the world thought about surfing. The film was Morning of the Earth. For many people it was the very first time they came to recognise surfing as a complete lifestyle. This recognition, coupled with mind-blowing, innovative surfing made the film a classic that has remained vital for over 40 years. Albe’s portrayal of all things pure and simple influenced generations, and passed on an enduring spirit to our culture, our music, and our lifestyle.

Spirit of Akasha is a brand new Australian film that reaffirms Morning of the Earth’s ethos of soul and spirit in the present day context, proving its values still have an enduring impact on us all.

Produced by noted Australian film-maker Andrew Kidman (Litmus, Glass Love, Last hope) and mentored by Albe Falzon himself, Spirit of Akasha sets a new benchmark with a creative fusion blending the realms of surfing, music and film making.

World champion surfers such as Mick Fanning, Stephanie Gilmore, Tom Curren, Kelly Slater and Beau Young have joined the new guard of Heath Joske, Harrison Roach, Ellis Ericson and Ace Buchan and Jon Jon Florence, alongside ‘soul surfers’ Fergal Smith, Joel & Kye Fitzgerald among many more.

The Spirit of Akasha soundtrack features mainly original songs composed and recorded by musicians with strong ties to the surfing community and includes a rare Brian Wilson recording. Other artists featured include Xavier Rudd, Angus Stone, Matt Corby, Dirty Three, Grouplove, POND and more.

To accompany the release, the original Morning of the Earth complete original soundtrack will be released in a double CD set, coupled with a tribute album Morning of The Earth Reimagined, featuring re-recordings by POND, Xavier Rudd, Andrew VanWyngarden, Busby Marou and many more.
