We are proud to announce the return season of Take Me Home Country Roads – The John Denver Story!

The intriguing story of John Denver, one of America’s most treasured musical icons, is brought to life in this Australian written and produced show starring Rick Price and The Colorado Quartet. This follows a major city tour in 2011 when the show received extensive critical and commercial acclaim.

Singer, Songwriter, Activist and Poet, in the mid- 1970s John Denver was arguably America’s most celebrated male entertainer. He recorded and released around 300 songs, 200 of which he composed.

His 1973 Greatest Hits album remained on Billboard magazine’s chart of top album sellers for about three years. In 1975 and 1976, Denver won four American Music Awards honours that measured the sentiments of music buyers rather than industry figures. Of his 24 albums released on the RCA label during his lifetime, 14 were certified gold (for sales of 500,000 copies), and eight of those sold over a million copies each.

However, John Denver’s private life belied his public persona of the fresh faced country boy. His personal life was fraught with multiple episodes of infidelity, alcoholism and domestic violence. This narrative driven concert tells a story of a man whose pristine public image was far removed from his troubled personal life.

Written by Australian theatrical producer Jim McPherson, author of the highly successful Johnny Cash biographical show The Man In Black, The John Denver Story interweaves Denver’s compelling journey with his classic hits, including Thank God I’m a Country Boy, Leaving on a Jet Plane, Annie’s Song, Rocky Mountain High, Grandma’s Feather Bed, Some Days Are Diamonds, Sunshine on my Shoulder and the stirring title song Take Me Home Country Roads.

Bringing the title role to life is Australian singer/songwriter Rick Price. A multiple music award winner and ARIA nominee, Rick Price burst onto the charts in the 1990s with his hits Not a Day Goes By, Heaven Knows and Just Walk Away Renee. A gifted performer, Rick Price has continued to entertain as well as compose for himself and other artists. Of late, he's been touring the world with Tommy Emmanuel. Returning from his current home in Nashville to tell the John Denver story, Rick’s award-winning voice gives true heart and soul to Denver’s music, and he narrates a gripping story of Denver’s passions while giving voice to more than 20 of his greatest hits.  He is accompanied by The Colorado Quartet in two hours of superb entertainment.
